The Firm

Owner-operated. Three generations active. Headquartered in Addison, Texas.

A privately held investor that buys, builds, and holds commercial assets across Texas — opportunistically, in markets others overlook.

HIC has completed 57 acquisitions valued in excess of $500 million over its 35-year history, with on-the-ground expertise in retail, industrial, flex, and office across high-growth corridors from Sherman to Corpus Christi.

The discipline that defines us is simple: act quickly, manage tightly, hold for the long term. The result is a perfect closing record since 1991 and zero mortgage defaults across three decades.

Nobody cares like an owner.
— Jeff Harkinson · founding principle, since 1983

A native Texan born in Houston and a Dallas resident since 1962, Jeff began his career in city management — ten years inside the City of Dallas City Manager's Office, the Mesquite city manager's office, and as Director of Regional Services at the North Central Texas Council of Governments, where he worked across a sixteen-county region.

In 1983, he stepped out of the public sector to form his own commercial brokerage and investment company. Eight years later, in 1991, he founded what is now Harkinson Investment Corporation, the holding firm for a portfolio that has since grown to three million square feet of office, medical, retail, and industrial space across Texas.

Between brokerage and principal investment, Mr. Harkinson has personally closed more than half a billion dollars in transactions. The portfolio carries a perfect closing record since 1991 — and across more than thirty years, has not missed a mortgage payment.

Outside the firm, Jeff is the steward of Blasingame Creek Ranch in Blanco, Texas — a Hill Country property anchored by an original 1854 log cabin, the site of the legendary shootout that killed Texas Ranger James Callahan. He sits on the boards of the Hill Country Alliance and the Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society, and his interests run to environmental preservation, biodiversity, and Texas history.
